Tropic Isle Living was launched in 1992 with the conviction to bring to market a range of Jamaican herbs and herbal products that have been valued for generations for their benefits to the hair, skin and body. For over 20 years Tropic Isle Living has been specializing in making natural hair, skin and body care products from oils, herbs and berries from Jamaica, the rest of the Caribbean and Africa. Our products are not massed produced, they are mostly made the old fashioned, traditional, hand-processed way. We do so because it is one way to preserve the natural magnetism of our products while paying homage to the elders and ancestors that passed on the knowledge.

Our most popular product is the Jamaican Black Castor Oil. It is a powerful and proven hair conditioner, but it is also traditionally used for: aches and pains, laxative, skin issues, breast massage, detoxifier and much more. The effectiveness and the multiple benefits of this wonderful healing oil has prompted us to use it as a base in Tropic Isle Living’s other hair and skin products including our: Coconut Black Castor Oil, Black Castor Oil Hair Food, Black Castor Oil Protein Conditioner, Black Castor Oil Shampoo, Strong Roots Red Pimento Hair Growth Oil and our Khus Khus Body Butter. We also have a line of bath products which includes our Jamaican Bush Bath, Cerasse Bush Bath, Lemon Grass/Mint Bush Bath, Island Spice Bush Bath, and Ginger Bush Bath.

We invite you to use our Tropic Isle Living’s Black Castor Oil Line of Hair products for a healthy scalp, and healthier, stronger, longer and thicker hair. Also, relax and experience our aroma therapeutic bath and body products including our Jamaican Bush Baths, and our Khus Khus Body Butter.

Armed with an insatiable curiosity for the untapped potential of traditional remedies and their impact on long-term wellness, Michael Hines has spent the better part of a 20-year career harnessing the therapeutic power of nature to provide diverse product offerings.

Tropic Isle Living is the brainchild of Michael Hines and his wife and business partner, Lois Reid-Hines. Serving as a health, beauty and wellness emporium for those seeking all-natural alternatives rich in original Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Tropic Isle Living represents an unwavering commitment to a more traditional approach to better living, through the plentitude of nature.

From his childhood in Westmoreland, Jamaica, Michael possessed a fascination with nature-sourced remedies, where he fondly recalls his grandmother extracting some “fever grass” from the back yard and lovingly preparing lemongrass tea to sooth his fevers. This exposure to homegrown herbal therapies sparked a lifelong fascination in the restorative force and efficacy of organic essentials.

With an eye towards self-determination through an entrepreneurial path, after reading Malcolm X’s seminal autobiography, Michael would go on to earn a degree in economics from the University of Georgia. Shortly thereafter, he began working at Sundial Herbs, a purveyor of traditional herbal products headquartered in the Bronx, NY. It was there that he would build upon his knowledge of botanical curatives, with the experience serving as the driving force and inspiration for establishing a business that would extoll the virtues of organic, wellness-centric living.

He would soon launch Tropic Isle Living – at the age of 26 – with his wife and fellow natural remedy enthusiast, Lois.

Michael has sought to establish Tropic Isle Living as one of the pre-eminent wellness and beauty companies in the industry, with its roots proudly entrenched in the vibrancy of Jamaican culture. To that end, the use of Jamaican Black Castor Oil was a waning herbal tradition that Tropic Isle Living singlehandedly revived – a remarkable 17 years before the rest of the mainstream American market caught wind of and exploited its beneficial properties. Now, through his extensive product offerings, he fervently believes there is a plethora of heretofore untapped Caribbean-based herbal gems whose benefits can – and should – be shared.

With Tropic Isle Living, Michael has established his company as a pioneer within the herbal space, through the incorporation of Jamaican Black Castor Oil in a wide array of high-quality hair- and skincare products. Through his efforts, he endeavors to continue imparting the cathartic secrets of these hidden, all-natural treasures to those in search of products offering purity and wellness – ones that can be seamlessly integrated into their daily regimen.

Fueled by an intense passion for all things within the health, beauty and wellness realm, Lois Hines brings considerable knowledge in her role as a savvy and formidable entrepreneur – serving her customers and community at large through her dedication to nurturing the internal and external self.

As the co-founder of Tropic Isle Living, a health, beauty and wellness brand specializing in products which contain all-natural, nourishing ingredients sourced from her homeland of Jamaica, Lois Hines deftly applies her more than 20 years of experience towards developing and marketing an extensive array of product offerings. The Tropic Isle Living product line thoroughly represents her philosophy of drawing from the abundance and restorative essence of nature to fully embrace one’s internal and outer health and beauty. It is this wellness-centric approach to hair and skincare that perfectly encapsulates her business and life mantra: “be bold, be beautiful, be you.”

From the tender age of seven, Lois developed a fascination with hair and beauty, conceptualizing elaborate hairstyles while her sister Lorna brought her creations to life. This passion carried through her adolescence right on to college, where she first attended Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, then Lehman College in the Bronx, NY, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science degree in philosophy. After graduation, Lois landed at Sundial Herbs, a Bronx-based retailer specializing in traditional herbal products and remedies. It was there that the seeds of her passion for beauty and wellness rooted in nature were planted, serving as the impetus for her entrepreneurial journey with the launch of Tropic Isle Living with her husband Michael Hines at the age of 21.

While cultivating her new business, Lois concurrently established the foundation of her overall business expertise and further honed her customer service experience. She served as an assistant with Glorious Foods, a catering company serving such celebrity clientele as Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters, and former New York City mayor, the Honorable Michael Bloomberg, among others. From there, Lois took a position as Administrative Director with Design Continuum, Inc. in Atlanta, GA, an influential interior design firm.

Since 2008, Lois has been committed full time to Tropic Isle Living, disseminating the importance of attentiveness to one’s overall well-being through nature – a message and cause her devoted and loyal customer base has eagerly embraced. And the beauty industry at large has taken note of her efforts as well; for her ongoing commitment to her community through her health and beauty enterprise, Lois has been honored with a 2012 CVS Mirror Mirror Award.

Lois resides in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband and business partner, Michael Hines and their two children.
